Preparing Your Child for Their Visit
Child Life Specialists are uniquely trained in providing developmentally appropriate preparation in order to increase positive coping outcomes and reduce stress and anxiety associated with medical care. Using interventions grounded in developmental theory, our team serves to educate children of various ages and abilities on upcoming medical visits or procedures in ways that are honest, meaningful and empower them with the information necessary to cope successfully.
Our child life team will work directly with your family to assess coping and preparation needs and individualize teachings through methods such as visual books, social stories, play and verbal preparation.
On our Social Stories and Teaching Tools page, you will find common words, examples, and images used to support familiarity at home prior to your visit.
